General Young Park

Newly completed basketball facilities

General Young Park, was established as a Memorial to remind us of the dedicated life of a man who sought justice for all. His key aims were to win the right to vote for all people and for all children to have the right to an education. The park is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Street and Alice Street.

The park includes, basketball courts, playground, green space and storm shelter. The basket ball courts have recently been renovated with resurfaced courts, including new graphics, bleachers, player benches, fencing and large shade canopy perfect for tournament and recreational play. All new playground equipment has been installed for recreation and enjoyment for children of all ages. Student volunteers painted murals on the storm shelter during a 2021 Art project, with a tribute to the park's namesake and his "self-made" Chevrolet.
