The City of Aberdeen is the county seat for Monroe County, Mississippi, and serves as a center of commerce and activity for area residents and visitors. Aberdeen offers a wealth of small-town charm with its tree-lined streets, antebellum homes, and historical architecture. The Northern District covers Alcorn, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Itawamba, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Prentiss, Tishomingo, Webster, and Winston counties.

Aberdeen is located along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and the Port of Aberdeen offers complete shipping facilities for business and industry. The City of Aberdeen owns the port and its facilities include a concrete dock, mooring cell, 100-ton capacity mobile crane, truck scales, warehouse, and an outdoor storage area with an asphalt surface.

Aberdeen’s location along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and U.S. Highway 45 provides the community an excellent economic development resource. The municipality’s central location between Tupelo and Columbus as well as its proximity to Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Alabama offer significant benefits as residents have a multitude of regional employment and educational opportunities.

In addition, Pioneer Community Hospital of Aberdeen provides the municipality with excellent acute care and 24-hour emergency service. Among other items, Pioneer offers physical therapy and sports medicine, geriatric psychiatry, outpatient behavioral health for those 18 years of age and older, a sleep center for intensive sleep studies, a full-service respiratory therapy and laboratory, general surgery, assisted living, independent living, and an outpatient specialty physicians facility.
